Closing the Teach For America Blogging Gap
May 24 2012

Let’s be honest

I joined TFA to get away. To escape the mundane ways of Columbus, Ohio. I wanted to explore to new places and learn new things. Could I have chosen an easier way to leave Ohio? Sure. But where is the fun in that.

Getting away is not the only reason I joined Teach For America, of course. I am a firm believer in AmeriCorps and “being the change you wish to see.” I’m already an AmeriCorps alum, serving two powerful years with City Year Columbus. I look forward to the next two years with TFA in the Mississippi Delta.

June 4, 2012 is the day I am leaving Columbus; Gahanna to be specific. Of course skipping town is not that easy, first I need to pass the PRAXIS I test. Let me just say that me and Math have not been spoken since 2004, so it will take a miracle of epic proportions for me to pass. Miracle means studying and prayer. Send your prayers my way. I need all the help I can get.

What I will miss most about Cowtown:

1. My people

2. The veg friendly food – Dirty Frank’s, Hal & Al’s, and Betty’s

3. Biking around town

4. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream

5. concerts everyday of the week
